1. Know your coffee's origin

At OR Coffee Roasters, we strive to bring you closer to the source of your coffee. Our Kenya Kamwangi AB is a single-origin coffee grown in the lush, fertile lands of Kirinyaga, a region renowned for its high-quality coffee production. The Kamwangi washing station processes coffee from nearly 985 smallholder farmers, each of whom tends to an average of 200–250 trees. This coffee is made from a blend of Batian, SL28, SL34, and Ruiru 11 varieties, showcasing the rich diversity of Kenyan coffee cultivation.

The central washing station plays a crucial role in ensuring a consistent and high-quality washed process, giving this coffee its clean, crisp character. Although Direct Trade is not possible due to Kenyan government regulations, we work closely with trusted partners to bring this exceptional coffee to you.

2. The Kirinyaga Region

The Kirinyaga region is located in the northeast of Mount Kenya, one of the most fertile coffee-growing areas in the country. The volcanic soils and high altitudes provide the ideal conditions for growing high-quality Arabica beans. The region’s distinct climate and terroir contribute to the unique flavor characteristics found in this coffee, with its sweet, fruity notes and vibrant acidity.

At the heart of the region is the Kamwangi washing station, where the cherries are meticulously processed using the washed method, resulting in a coffee that’s exceptionally clean and bright. With each cup, you are supporting the smallholder farmers of this community who rely on coffee production for their livelihood.

3. Roasting process

Our Kenya Kamwangi AB is roasted to highlight its vibrant flavors and juicy mouthfeel. We take a lighter approach to roasting, allowing the natural characteristics of the coffee to shine through. The light roast ensures that the fruity and honey-like sweetness are well-preserved, while the acidity remains lively, making it perfect for filter brewing.

This coffee is designed for filter brewing, where its clean and juicy flavors truly stand out. We recommend using a V60 or Chemex to bring out the fruity and floral notes of blueberry and gooseberry, while maintaining the coffee’s honeyed sweetness and caramel finish. The crisp acidity and well-rounded body make this coffee ideal for slow sipping and savoring.

For a more intense, full-bodied experience, you can also try brewing it using a French Press. Whichever method you choose, Kenya Kamwangi AB delivers an unforgettable coffee experience.
