Colombia El Credo

Don Juanito S. López grew up in an environment where the coffee crop is part of human beings and, for some, the only means of subsistence. His family was no exception. He is the 3rd generation of coffee producer here. From his early age, he was very keen on agriculture and therefore tried to spend as much time with his father to learn all about the cultivates and secrets of successful coffee production. He later studied agronomy to gain even more knowledge and experience about all aspects of coffee and new trends. That brings him into the specialty coffee and aim to introduce on their land. As his father saw in him the unrelenting energy, passion, and talent for caring for coffee trees and cultivating the land; and decided to bequeath the El Credo farm to him. To give his son the chance to produce the magical coffee there, as he calls it.

The farm is situated very high in the mountains, but relatively high humidity and wind, as well as the canyons microclimate that surrounds the farm, make the climate and grounds very favourable for producing specialty coffees. His farm has 4 ha of land where they plan coffee, his main passion, and peas and corn. However, coffee makes him happy, as it helps connect the family and provides them with economic independence.

Nowadays, it is over ten years, when he took over the farm. He never regrets the decision and continues to strive for improvement and better quality of the coffee. His efforts and diligence are clearly visible when drinking his coffee, but he was also evaluated in the prestige competition of Cup of Excellence that he
participated in for the first time in 2020. It was an indescribable experience. He revealed to us how nervous he felt when he presented his coffee in the competition as if it was for the first time. And then very happy seeing the results and appreciation. It taught him a lot and helped him realize how much his life is connected to this tiny and realizing plant. Because coffee is an essential part of his life, it helps his family achieve their goals and better life. When asked Mr. Juanito López about his plans for the future, he said to
improve the coffee dryer and continue to teach his sons the importance of coffee in the world, exactly as his father taught him.
