The most important features of the Sage Oracle Jet

The Oracle Jet is built for versatility and consistency, equipped with innovative technologies that automate and optimize every step of the coffee-making process. With its powerful ThermoJet® heating system, precise Auto MilQ™ technology for milk frothing, and an intuitive touchscreen interface, this Bean-to-Cup espresso machine creates a premium coffee experience at home, whether you’re craving a smooth espresso, a refreshing cold brew, or a velvety latte macchiato.

Size and Design

The Sage Oracle Jet is not a small machine: Sage lists it at 42.2 cm wide, 36 cm deep and 37.8 cm high, so measure your counter before you order.

The Oracle Jet we sell has a brushed stainless steel body. The touchscreen, the 58 mm portafilter and the steam wand are all on the front, so you work the machine like a classic espresso machine.

Intuitive touchscreen and barista support

The Oracle Jet makes brewing easier with its touchscreen, a central feature that combines intuitive operation with an immersive user interface. This touchscreen is designed for ease of use, featuring not only simple controls but also a stylish “Dark Mode” for a sleek, modern look and enhanced visibility in various lighting conditions. The addition of video animations brings a unique, visually guided experience, helping users navigate through brewing steps and settings with ease.

Equipped with the cutting-edge Barista Guidance technology, the Oracle Jet goes beyond standard features by actively monitoring extraction parameters. This system provides real-time feedback on the grind size and other extraction variables, ensuring that every shot of espresso reaches its fullest flavor potential. If adjustments are needed for the ideal grind, the Oracle Jet’s screen offers precise recommendations, effectively allowing coffee enthusiasts to fine-tune their brews without guesswork.

ThermoJet

The Sage Oracle Jet heats with ThermoJet, which reaches extraction temperature in seconds. That virtually eliminates the waiting time of many espresso machines: on a busy morning, the machine is ready when you are, also for back-to-back drinks.

Because ThermoJet only heats when you need it, it also saves energy: according to Sage, it is up to 32% more energy efficient than a Thermoblock system.

Perfect grind and dosage

For precise coffee preparation, the Oracle Jet has Baratza European Precision burrs with 45 grind settings, so you can match the grind to your beans. It doses 22 g into the 58 mm portafilter and tamps it automatically, which gives you a stable coffee bed and the same puck every time.

The Barista Guidance technology ensures that this dosing is consistent and accurate, helping users avoid common pitfalls that can lead to inconsistent results. This combination not only simplifies the coffee preparation process but also guarantees exceptional quality and consistency.

Cold Brew and Cold Espresso Options

Next to the hot drinks, the Oracle Jet has two cold presets: cold brew and cold espresso. The cold brew is ready in under 3 minutes, and a cold espresso with a layer of crema in just over a minute. It is a refreshing alternative for warm days, without a separate cold brew setup. More on both presets in our guide to cold brew at home with Sage Cold Extraction.

Temperature control

To keep every shot consistent, the Oracle Jet has a heated group head whose temperature you can adjust in 1 °C steps. A stable temperature through the whole extraction is what brings out the full complexity and aroma of your coffee.

Auto MilQ System

The Oracle Jet’s Auto MilQ™ system offers exceptional control over milk texture and temperature. With milk temperatures from 40 to 75 °C and 8 texture levels, the machine can create silky, textured milk suitable for latte art or cappuccinos for regular milk and alternatives. The steam wand is equipped with temperature sensors for consistent frothing, and the system automatically begins milk frothing after espresso extraction, simplifying the process while enhancing the flavor and mouthfeel of milk-based drinks. The Oracle Jet is compatible with various milk types, including dairy alternatives like oat, soy and almond, making it versatile for all preferences.

Cons of the Sage Oracle Jet:

  • Noisy grinding process, the built-in grinder, while effective, can be quite noisy, which might be a concern for those who prefer a quieter morning routine or live in small spaces.
  • Premium price point, the advanced features and technology come with a higher price tag, which might be a consideration for budget-conscious consumers.
  • Large footprint, at 42.2 cm wide it needs a good spot on your counter.

The difference between the Sage Oracle Jet and the Sage Oracle Dual Boiler

The Oracle Jet and the Oracle Dual Boiler both grind, dose and tamp 22 g into a 58 mm portafilter by themselves, with Baratza European Precision burrs and 45 grind settings. Three differences decide which one suits you.

    1. ThermoJet vs. two boilers

The Oracle Jet heats with ThermoJet, which reaches extraction temperature in seconds; you brew first and then steam. The Oracle Dual Boiler has two stainless steel boilers, so you can pull a shot and steam milk at the same time. With the Sage+ app you can switch it on and pre-heat it remotely over Wi-Fi.

    2. Grind adjustment

On the Oracle Jet, the touchscreen tells you when a shot runs too fast or too slow and suggests a finer or coarser grind; you make the change. The Oracle Dual Boiler does it by itself: Auto Dial-In checks every shot for under- or over-extraction and adjusts the grind for the next one. It also has a Manual mode for when you want to take over.

    3. Cold drinks, milk and size

Cold brew and cold espresso are presets on the Oracle Jet; Sage does not list them for the Oracle Dual Boiler. Auto MilQ is on both: 40 to 75 °C in 8 texture levels on the Jet, 45 to 75 °C in 9 levels on the Dual Boiler. The Oracle Jet is also the narrower machine, 42.2 cm wide against 45.4 cm.

Want two boilers and automatic grind correction? You can find the Sage Oracle Dual Boiler in our shop, and our Oracle Dual Boiler review covers it in detail. If you are happy to tamp with a lever and want to spend less, read our Barista Touch Impress review.

    Maintenance and longevity

For the cleaning and descaling routine of every Sage model, with the products to use, read our guide to cleaning and descaling your Sage espresso machine. The basics are below.

    Daily maintenance

    • Clean the portafilter and group head: After each use, remove the portafilter and rinse it under hot water. Wipe the group head with a clean, damp cloth to remove any coffee residue.
    • Empty the drip tray: The drip tray collects water and coffee drips during the brewing process. Make sure to empty and rinse it daily to prevent any buildup.
    • Wipe down the exterior: Use a soft, damp cloth to clean the machine's exterior. Avoid abrasive cleaners that could scratch the surface.

    Weekly maintenance

    • Clean the steam wand: After each use, purge the steam wand by turning on the steam for a few seconds to clear any milk residue. Once a week, detach the steam tip and soak it in warm water to remove any stubborn milk deposits. Use a pin or the provided cleaning tool to clear any blockages in the steam holes.
    • Flush the group head: Run water through the group head without the portafilter attached to flush out any coffee grounds that may have accumulated. This process helps to keep the brewing path clear.

    Monthly maintenance

    • Backflush the machine: Backflushing is essential for removing oils and coffee residues that accumulate in the group head. Use the cleaning disc that comes with the machine and a sachet of The Group Head Cleaner, the cleaning powder Sage lists for this machine. Run the cleaning cycle as instructed in the user manual. This process should be done once a month or more frequently if you use the machine heavily.
    • Descale the machine: Depending on the hardness of your water, descaling should be done every 1-3 months. The Sage Oracle Jet will notify you when it's time to descale. Use Sage descaling powder or another descaler made for espresso machines and follow the instructions carefully. Descaling removes mineral buildup in the water lines and the ThermoJet heating system, ensuring the machine heats water efficiently.

    Additional tips for longevity

    • Use fresh, quality water: Always use filtered or bottled water to minimize mineral buildup inside the machine. Hard water can lead to scale formation, which affects performance and the taste of your coffee.
    • Empty the bean hopper when not in use: If you're not planning to use the machine for a few days, empty the bean hopper to prevent the beans from going stale or the oils from turning rancid, which can affect the taste of your coffee.
    • Store the machine properly: If you're not using the machine for an extended period, clean it thoroughly, including descaling and wiping down all parts. Store it in a dry, dust-free environment.
    • Check the seals and gaskets: Periodically check the seals, especially around the group head and portafilter, for wear and tear. Replacing them when necessary ensures that the machine maintains proper pressure during brewing.

By following these maintenance steps, you can significantly extend the lifespan of your Sage Oracle Jet and continue to enjoy high-quality coffee for years to come. Regular cleaning and proper care not only maintain the machine’s performance but also protect your investment, ensuring that each cup of coffee is brewed to perfection.

What we at OR Coffee Roasters think about the Sage Oracle Jet

At OR Coffee Roasters, we see the Sage Oracle Jet as the machine for people who want café-style milk drinks every morning without weighing, tamping or cleaning up grounds. Because it tamps into a 58 mm portafilter, you get the same puck every time, and the screen tells you when to grind finer or coarser. The Auto Queue function starts the milk right after the shot, which keeps the morning routine short.

Cold brew and cold espresso make it a machine for every season, and the Auto MilQ system handles dairy as well as soy, almond and oat milk.

Which coffee? We would start with our Houseblend: a sweet espresso blend with a full body, low acidity and notes of dark chocolate and cacao nibs. If you like more of an espresso-bar feel, take our Seasonal Blend: fruitier and livelier. For a cup in the evening, our Colombia Sugar Cane Specialty Decaf has a full body and low acidity. And if you want to explore, pick one of our single origins.

Final thoughts on the Sage Oracle Jet

In conclusion, the Sage Oracle Jet stands out for its blend of speed, consistency and ease of use. It suits both beginners and experienced home baristas, with advanced features that do not get in the way.

It heats with ThermoJet, not with boilers: if you want two boilers and automatic grind correction, the Oracle Dual Boiler is the better pick. If you are happy to tamp with a lever and want to spend less, look at the Barista Touch Impress. You can find the Oracle Jet in our shop: Sage Oracle Jet.
