La Marzocco Linea Classic S review: the simplest Linea, from 1 to 3 groups

La Marzocco Linea Classic S review: the simplest Linea, from 1 to 3 groups

The Linea Classic S AV is the most straightforward La Marzocco we sell for a café: two boilers, saturated groups, dual PID, programmable doses and espresso timers, and nothing you have to learn on top of that. It is also the only La Marzocco professional machine in our range that comes as a 1-group, next to the 2- and 3-group versions.

It fits a restaurant or office that wants café espresso from one group, a coffee bar that wants a proven 2-group without a screen to manage, and a big counter that needs three groups. It is not the machine for a bar that wants the groups to backflush themselves or every shot weighed: that is the Linea PB.

In this review

Our baristas’ verdict

  • Best at: stable, repeatable espresso from saturated groups, with as little to set up as possible.
  • Right size for: a restaurant or office (1 group) up to a big café counter (3 groups).
  • Pick another model if: you want auto backflush, a digital display or scales in the drip tray (Linea PB), or a separate brew temperature per group (GB5 X).
  • Plan for: Pro Touch steam wands as a special order if your team steams a lot of milk.

Strengths and weak points

Strengths

  • Available with 1, 2 or 3 groups.
  • Saturated groups, dual boiler and dual PID: a stable temperature shot after shot.
  • Programmable doses with the three-button interface on the left group, and espresso timers.
  • Compact: 58.5 cm deep and 44.5 cm high in every size.
  • Ready for the La Marzocco Pro app.

Weak points

  • One coffee boiler for all groups, so one brew temperature. A boiler per group is the GB5 X.
  • No auto backflush and no scales in the drip tray: both come with the Linea PB AV.
  • Pro Touch steam wands only on special order.
  • Barista LEDs are an option, not standard.

Options and how to combine them

Options are ordered together with the machine, so they are fitted before it is installed.

  • High legs (Linea Classic S kit): more clearance above the counter, for access underneath the machine.
  • Barista LEDs: light the work area under the groups. Standard on the Linea PB, KB90 and GB5, an option on the Classic S.
  • Powder coating in a standard RAL color or a custom RAL color, confirmed with the order.
  • Pro Touch steam wands: a special order, ask for them in your quote.
  • Water treatment: the Brita Purity C1100 XtraSafe filter can go on the same quote.

How to combine them: high legs, LEDs and color are one choice per machine, whatever the number of groups. Add Pro Touch wands if milk drinks make up a large part of your menu. Scales in the drip tray (Auto Brew Ratio) are not available on the Classic S: if brewing by weight matters to you, start from the Linea PB instead of adding options here.

Frequently asked questions

How many coffees a day can it make?

La Marzocco gives no cups-per-day figure for the Classic S, so neither do we. What decides the size is your busiest hour and how many baristas work the bar at the same time: a 1-group suits a restaurant or office, a 3-group a big counter. Tell us your numbers and we advise the number of groups.

Does it need a water connection?

Yes. The Classic S is connected to the water supply; it has no water tank. Tell us what is available on site and we check it before installation. A water filter can be added to your quote.

How much maintenance does it need?

The Classic S has no auto backflush program, so the barista backflushes the groups by hand at closing and cleans portafilters, steam wands and drip tray. Our product page gives a warranty of 3 years, if professional maintenance is done twice a year.

What does installation involve?

The 1-group runs on 220 V single phase (2,500 W). The 2- and 3-group versions come for 200 V single phase, 220 V single or three phase and 380 V three phase, up to 7,790 W. Have your electrician check the connection first. We deliver within 2-3 working days and install by appointment.

Ordering through OR Coffee

Every Linea Classic S from OR Coffee comes with 12 kg of OR specialty coffee for espresso, a Full Barista Training for two people from your team at OR Academy, and full installation of the machine with OR coffee beans. Delivery takes 2-3 working days; installation is by appointment.

Ready for a quote? Request one on the Linea Classic S product page or mail us at webshop@orcoffee.be. Tell us the number of groups, how many drinks you make in your busiest hour and which options you have in mind, and we come back with a quote.
